"Some cities cry..."

The title refers to a Doves song, and I thought it was appropriate for the mood I am in right now. My heart fell this morning - isn't it funny how we can have physical reactions to news? - when I saw that a bomb had exploded in Beirut, on the waterfront. I know the area they are talking about, it was kind of near AUB and a very popular destination for people to walk and enjoy the seaside. It breaks my heart because there are some places that you know are doomed to conflict, and others you really wish were given a chance to prosper. Beirut is one that is stuck in between those two types.
